About Me
TanningBeds.org is a not for profit site that aims to provide objective and (hopefully) accurate information about repairing, maintaining and sometimes modifying tanning equipment. Sometimes I will have to refer you to a technician, or give you a name and number to call, but always will try to give you enough information for parts that you can buy them from any company that sells tanning bed parts. Under all circumstances, I will get back with you, even if it takes a few days.
The person that actually does the writing here is me, Dennis Brown. I have been working on and with tanning beds for about 14 years now at UVA SunSystems, Inc. (a manufacturer of tanning beds) , and also have a background working in technical fields, both with electronics and extensively with computer networks, particularly Linux servers. I don’t do “regular” technical work at UVA, instead I get the “problem children”. This is usually on larger equipment, and includes a fair amount of custom modifications and patch work. I also design new tanning systems and subsystems. I don’t consider myself an “expert” (I personally hate that word) but I have been doing this for a bit longer than most people in the industry, so I have run across most problems at least once or twice.
I author other websites, including several ecommerce websites. My style has been described as “direct and to the point”. I am not a journalist or a poet, and my spelling and grammar could be better. I tend to focus on content rather than style. I sometimes use the word “we” instead of “I” because I do get input from the guys and gals that I work with, such as Archie, Ron, Richard and Cindy plus input from visitors just like you.
I have full editorial control over the site, and my employer doesn’t influence anything I write. I wouldn’t bother running the site if they did. The purpose of the site isn’t to be the end-all ultimate authority for all things tanning. The site is for people who are handy and can safely do the work themselves, and just want to know how to get it done (or get an electrican to do it for them). Some want to build their own tanning system, or take a broken old system and get it working with non-standard parts. It is the purest form of hacking, taking a bunch of electronic parts and making them do something cool.
The site isn’t exactly a blog and doesn’t allow posting because I don’t have time to police the spam that comes with all that. You can email your questions to me and I will always reply personally, if you leave your email adresss. If I feel the question is worth printing, I will create an article and post it on the site so everyone will learn at the same time. In the end, the goal is to create a collection of articles about how to patch up a tanning bed, what to sweat and what to ignore, and give everyone a basic education about how to take care of your tanning bed. Since no one else is doing this, I felt like this would be a nice void to fill.
So read, enjoy, send questions, email me your thoughts. I do return email and will do the best to get you the best solution, and hopefully save you some money. Thanks for stopping by!
Dennis Brown
DISCLAIMER
Be forewarned that tanning beds have high voltages inside, and yes, you can electrocute yourself and end up injured. Or dead. Don’t work on your own tanning bed unless you know what you are doing. Better yet, have an electrician do the work and you can use the information found here as a guide. The information on this site is for entertainment purposes, and we are NOT the official “how-to” guide for your tanning bed. In other words, you read and follow the information found on this site at your own risk, and no one, including myself or the company that pays for the site and bandwidth, are responsible for how you use this information, only you are.
Also be forewarned that, while I am an experienced technician, I could be wrong. This could be because I am only getting a small amount of info in the email you send, or because I goof. I will tell you when I am not sure and only guessing, but I still am not responsible for how you use the information you get here. The purpose of the website is to be a guide and point you in the right direction, NOT to be a substitute for proper training or a certified technician in your home or salon.
